Laughter…Are you laughing enough? It’s hard isn’t it…to laugh. All any of us have to do is look at the world; the economy, politics, world unrest, violence….the list goes on and on. Yet the best stress reliever and the best coping mechanism… laughter… is free!
Og Mandino started me on my joy ride. He starts out Chapter 14 in The Greatest Salesman in the World by stating, “I will laugh at the world.” He goes on to say we must cultivate a habit of laughter. My sister did it best! She had a laugh that filled a room and soon had everyone joining her. It is contagious…laughter. She laughed at the good and the bad. Her philosophy, “I might as well laugh!” Becoming angry or frustrated never helps anyone. Isn’t that true? It just makes a tough situation tougher. Children are great examples of laughter! They laugh, smile, giggle and play all day. Their lives are filled with energy. That just may be the answer for many of us lacking energy and walking around with our heads in a gray storm cloud. The answer…laughter and play. The two are often linked together.
How do I handle situations that bring me to tears and sadness? Remembering…”This too shall pass.” Nothing is forever in this life. Remembering those four words brings a smile to my face, and the ability to walk on through.
I have a habit of reminding myself the importance of laughing. My daily reminders start early in the morning with these written reminders:
- “Only with laughter and happiness can I truly becomes a success.” ~ Og Mandino
- ” A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” ~ Proverbs 17:22
- Cultivate a sense of humor. Look for the funny side of everything. It is always there, and will help you to meet any situation. Laugh at yourself at least once before ten o’ clock every morning.” ~ Emmet Fox
- “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” ~ Proverbs 31:25
- “This too shall pass!”
Start your own list of reminders. It’s the best way to start you morning. Researchers have discovered that just pretending to laugh is contagious, it tricks the brain and spreads to those around us.
Admit it…you smiled, some of you even laughed. Just so you know, I am not advertising for Coke, but isn’t it a great lesson in laughter and the change it makes in our lives. Here is also that reminder that things don’t always turn out as we wish, please enjoy Cookie Monster. He is learning, “This too shall pass.”
